Expert Tips for a Great About Me Page

The hardest website page to create is the About Me page.
It's so hard to know what to say!
And to make it more confusing, the experts say that your About Me page isn't really about you; it's about your visitors and their problem and how you're the best person to solve it.
I asked some copywriting experts for their top tips on how to create a great About Me page.
Be sure to visit their websites for more of their copywriting goodness!

"A good About page should NOT read like a resume. Your visitor went to that page to learn more about the person and philosophies behind the company. As with any writing, engaging the reader right away is critical. Make sure they feel like you know and understand their problem before telling them why you are the best company to provide the solution to their problem. Keep the paragraphs short. Add a testimonial or two if you can. Finally, end with a specific call to action, just like you would on any other page."

"Here are the steps that I follow:
1. Create a benefit driven headline.
2. Describe the problem that they (the customer) has
3. What solution the business provides for the customer
4. Explain the process
5. Testimonials
6. A clear Call to Action (CTA) with steps in best."

"Your about page is never really about you. Shock horror, I know! It’s about how you make your clients feel. Done well, your clients will feel connected, supported and excited to work with you! Your clients don’t buy from you because of ‘what’ you do. They don’t even buy because of ‘how’ you do what you do. They buy from you for ‘you’!

"Your about page is a powerful tool to connect with your clients. Connection sparks conversation. And as a natural by product of conversation, conversions flow.

"My biggest tip about writing an about page is to remember that your about page is a ‘conversation’ that enables your visitors to get to know you. Your story empowers them to make a buying decision. In real life when you meet someone they might ask you: Who are you? What do you do? What does that involve? How long have you been doing it? Where are you based? Why do you do that? Your About page should emulate this experience of encountering you for the first time."

"When you’re writing an “about me” page, consider what your target client needs to know about your qualifications, experience, and philosophy to convince them to hire you. If your clients are corporate employees, they’ll likely be interested in your past positions, certifications, and professional accomplishments; a client base of professional dog walkers is probably interested in a much different set of credentials."
